Fast Loyalty includes points, VIP tiers, referrals and Shopify POS rewards on a free plan, so you can test what your customers respond to before paying for anything.
Disclosure: our team helped build Fast Loyalty. It was scored on the same criteria as every other app below and ranks #9 overall.
Quick answer: The best loyalty app for most Shopify stores in 2026 is BON Loyalty. It scored highest in our ranking because it has a 5.0 rating from almost 2,000 merchants, the Built for Shopify badge, and a $129 Growth plan with unlimited orders, so your bill does not rise as you grow.
The right pick still depends on your store. Appstle Loyalty has the cheapest VIP tiers ($30 a month), Essent is the best value for stores with a physical shop, Joy suits social-led fashion brands, and Fast Loyalty is the easiest free start for a brand-new store.
Shopify does not include a points or VIP program, so every loyalty program on Shopify runs on an app. There are more than 400 of them in the App Store's loyalty category, and most "best of" lists rank them on feature lists alone. That misses what merchants actually complain about once the program is live: the monthly bill jumping when orders grow, VIP tiers locked behind a $199 plan, and points that do not work at the till.
So we took a different approach. We compared 12 popular loyalty apps on live App Store data checked on October 15, 2026, worked out what each one really costs at three store sizes, read the most active Shopify Community threads and hundreds of low-star and recent App Store reviews, and scored every app on the same six weighted criteria. The full scoring method is published below, so you can see exactly why each app landed where it did.
Start with your store type. If you already know what kind of store you run, the next section gives you a pick in under a minute.
Find your store type first
A loyalty app that is perfect for a high-volume supplement brand can be the wrong choice for a boutique with one physical shop. Here is our pick for eight common kinds of Shopify store, with a strong second choice for each.

Points, VIP tiers, referrals and POS for $0. The trade-off is a short review history, since it launched in June 2026.
Also consider: EssentReviews, UGC and loyalty share one customer profile, so you can reward photo reviews, which drive beauty sales.
Also consider: GrowaveRewards Instagram comments, story mentions and DMs automatically, plus VIP early access and wallet passes.
Also consider: SmileVIP tiers from $30 a month and a native link to Appstle Subscriptions, Recharge, Seal and Bold.
Also consider: RivoShopify POS from $10 a month, and store credit applies at checkout without discount codes.
Non-Shopify POS: MarselloA dedicated B2B tier program for trade buyers, included on the $129 Growth plan.
Also consider: Appstle LoyaltyStrategy support, account managers and a done-for-you loyalty page for brands with fewer, bigger orders.
Also consider: RivoUnlimited orders for a flat $129 a month, so your bill stays the same as you scale.
Also consider: Appstle LoyaltyIf you run a Shopify Plus or headless store and need APIs, look at Rivo's Developer Toolkit (Plus plan), LoyaltyLion or Yotpo Loyalty. All three are built for custom builds, though each costs $199 a month or more once you add the features that matter at that size.
Our ranking criteria and scoring weights
Every app was scored from 0 to 10 on six criteria. Each score was multiplied by the criterion's weight, and the results were added up to give a final score out of 100. The weights reflect what merchants told us matters most once a program is live, based on the Shopify Community threads and App Store reviews we read.
| Criterion | Weight | What we measured |
|---|---|---|
| Merchant trust | 25% | App Store rating, total review count, and the share of 1-star reviews. A 5.0 from 2,000 merchants scores higher than a 5.0 from 25. |
| Value as you grow | 20% | What the app costs at 300, 1,000 and 3,000 monthly orders, and whether pricing jumps or stays flat as order volume rises. |
| Features and plan gates | 20% | Points, VIP tiers, referrals, store credit and rewards, plus how cheaply the key features unlock. VIP tiers at $30 score higher than VIP tiers at $199. |
| Shopify fit | 15% | Built for Shopify badge, Shopify POS support, checkout and customer account extensions, and Shopify Flow. |
| Track record | 10% | How long the app has been on the App Store and how stable it has been through price and product changes. |
| Support and complaint pattern | 10% | What recent and low-star reviews say about support speed, bugs, billing and cancelling. |
Where the data came from: live Shopify App Store listings (ratings, review counts, plans, plan features and badges), each vendor's own pricing page where the listing was incomplete, recent and 1 to 2 star App Store reviews, 17 Shopify Community threads from 2021 to 2026, and Capterra reviews for Smile and LoyaltyLion. All prices and ratings were checked on October 15, 2026.
What we did not do: we did not accept payment for placement, and we did not run paid trials on live stores for this article. Where an app's App Store listing and its own website disagree, we used the App Store listing and say so in that app's review. When two apps tied, the one with more reviews ranked higher.
Final scores at a glance
| # | App | Trust (25) | Value (20) | Features (20) | Shopify fit (15) | Track record (10) | Support (10) | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | BON Loyalty | 10 | 10 | 9 | 9 | 8 | 9 | 93.5 |
| 2 | Appstle Loyalty | 9 | 10 | 7 | 9 | 6 | 8 | 84 |
| 3 | Essent | 9 | 10 | 7 | 9 | 5 | 9 | 84 |
| 4 | Joy | 9 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 8 | 8 | 82 |

| 7 | Rivo | 8 | 8 | 8 | 6 | 8 | 6 | 75 |
| 8 | Okendo | 7 | 4 | 8 | 7 | 8 | 6 | 66 |
| 9 | Fast Loyalty | 4 | 10 | 7 | 6 | 2 | 7 | 62 |
| 10 | LoyaltyLion | 6 | 3 | 8 | 6 | 10 | 5 | 61 |
| 11 | Yotpo Loyalty | 6 | 3 | 7 | 6 | 9 | 6 | 59 |
| 12 | Marsello | 4 | 5 | 7 | 6 | 8 | 4 | 55 |
Two results surprise most readers. Smile ranks fifth, even though it has the most reviews of any loyalty app on Shopify, because its VIP tiers and points expiry only unlock on the $199 Growth plan, which pulls its value score down. Appstle Loyalty and Essent rank second and third because they unlock the same core features for $10 to $79 a month while keeping 5.0 ratings and the Built for Shopify badge.
The 12 apps, reviewed one by one
Each review below follows the same layout: the app's key numbers, what it does best, what merchants praise and complain about in their own reviews, the plan table from the App Store, and a clear "pick it if" and "skip it if".
BON Loyalty is our top pick because it is the only app in this list that publishes an unlimited-orders plan, so its top self-serve price does not grow with your order volume. The Growth plan costs $129 a month for unlimited orders, so a store doing 3,000 or 10,000 orders a month pays the same as a store doing 600. Every other order-based app in this list charges more as you grow.
It also has the strongest trust signals of any app we scored: a 5.0 rating from 1,957 reviews, only 1% of them 1-star, and the Built for Shopify badge. Features go deep. You get points, an anti-cheat referral program, VIP tiers, purchase-streak points, daily check-ins, anniversary rewards and a separate B2B tier program for wholesale buyers. Shopify POS starts on the $29 Basic plan, and even the free plan lets Shopify Plus stores redeem points at checkout.
What merchants praise
- Fast, human support with named reps who help with setup
- Quick setup, even for merchants running their first loyalty program
- Pricing that is not tied to order volume on Growth
What merchants complain about
- So many features that the dashboard can feel complicated
- Redemptions run through discount codes rather than store credit
- A few older reviews mention widget conflicts with paid themes
| Plan | Price | Monthly orders | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 150 | Points, referrals, checkout redemption (Plus) |
| Starter | $15/mo | 300 | Loyalty page, points expiry, Klaviyo |
| Basic | $29/mo | 500 | Shopify POS, 2x point days, multi-language |
| Growth | $129/mo | Unlimited | VIP tiers, B2B tiers, streak and check-in points |
Appstle Loyalty has the cheapest complete feature ladder of any established app here. Shopify POS starts on the $10 Starter plan, VIP tiers and custom points expiry arrive on the $30 Business plan, and that plan covers up to 2,000 orders a month with no overage charges. Most rivals put VIP tiers on plans that cost $129 to $199.
It comes from the team behind Appstle Subscriptions, one of the most-reviewed subscription apps on Shopify, and it connects natively to Appstle Subscriptions and Appstle Membership for tiered and wholesale rewards. It also works with Recharge, Seal, Bold and Yotpo Subscriptions, which makes it a natural fit for supplement, coffee and refill brands where most revenue comes from repeat orders. Paying yearly saves about 20% ($96, $288 or $960 a year).
What merchants praise
- A low price for the amount of features
- Quick replies from named support agents
- Easy switching from other loyalty apps
What merchants complain about
- Some older reviews report POS earn and redeem problems
- Widget conflicts with heavily customized themes
- One migration review says imported point balances were wrong
| Plan | Price | Monthly orders | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 250 | Points, referrals, basic branding and integrations |
| Starter | $10/mo ($96/yr) | 500 | Shopify POS |
| Business | $30/mo ($288/yr) | 2,000 | VIP tiers, custom points expiry |
| Business Premium | $100/mo ($960/yr) | 5,000, then $0.015/order | Checkout points redemption (Plus), APIs on request |
Essent counts only loyalty-influenced orders toward its plan limits, meaning repeat and referral orders the program helped create, not every order in your store. A store with 2,000 orders a month might only have a few hundred loyalty orders, which can keep it on the free or $10 plan for a long time. That is the most merchant-friendly pricing model in this list.
It is also the best value for stores that sell in person. Shopify POS starts on the $10 Starter plan, and from the $24 Essential plan customers get store credit that applies automatically at checkout, with no discount codes to copy. The free plan already includes a referral program, one VIP tier, Klaviyo and 12 ways to earn points. Essent launched in November 2024, so its track record is shorter than the long-running apps, but its 491 reviews include only one 1-star review.
What merchants praise
- Fast, hands-on support, including CSS and point imports
- Quick setup with a clean interface
- A generous free plan for new stores
What merchants complain about
- No multi-currency loyalty yet, according to one reviewer
- Limited visibility into what happens in the background
- Storefront styling takes some extra work after install
| Plan | Price | Loyalty orders/mo | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 250 | Referrals, 1 VIP tier, Klaviyo, 12 ways to earn |
| Starter | $10/mo | 500 | Shopify POS, loyalty page, Flow custom points |
| Essential | $24/mo | 1,500 | Store credit, points and tier expiry, account page status |
| Growth | $79/mo | 5,000 | Unlimited VIP tiers, checkout redemption (Plus), analytics |
Joy's standout feature is something no other app in this list offers: it automatically rewards customers for Instagram engagement, including comments, story mentions and DMs. For fashion and lifestyle brands that already sell through Instagram, that turns social activity into points without extra tools. It also includes Apple and Google Wallet passes and paid membership programs.
The free plan covers 250 orders a month, and points expiry plus Klaviyo arrive on the $29 Essential plan. The catch is that VIP tiers, Shopify POS and the Loyalty Hub inside customer accounts all sit on the $129 Advanced plan, and Essential charges $15 for every extra 100 orders past 500. Joy is also one of the few apps here that offers wholesale tiers on its Advanced plan.
What merchants praise
- Patient support across time zones, including custom code help
- Easy to configure, with flexible earning rules and anti-cheat referrals
- Good value on the free and Essential plans
What merchants complain about
- Big price jump when you need VIP tiers or POS
- Points not recorded for some order types, such as draft orders
- Some admin bugs, such as customer search
| Plan | Price | Monthly orders | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $0 | 250 | Points, limited referrals |
| Essential | $29/mo | 500, then $15 per 100 | Points expiry, Klaviyo and 30+ integrations |
| Advanced | $129/mo | 2,000, then $10 per 100 | VIP and wholesale tiers, Shopify POS, Loyalty Hub |
| Ultimate | $499/mo | 7,000, then $5 per 100 | Checkout extensions (Plus), REST API |
SlashCart's Shopify team sets up, migrates and tests loyalty apps for Shopify and Shopify Plus stores, including point balance imports, theme widgets and Klaviyo flows.
Smile is the most-reviewed loyalty app on Shopify, with 4,634 reviews, a 4.9 rating and more than a decade on the App Store. It is also the app Shopify Community members name most often when someone asks for a recommendation, usually as the easy, safe default. Setup is fast, the widgets look polished out of the box, and Shopify POS works on the free plan.
It ranks fifth because of value. VIP tiers, points expiry, the Loyalty Hub in customer accounts and checkout redemption for Shopify Plus all sit on the $199 Growth plan, and Growth adds $20 for every 100 orders past 2,500. Pricing and feature gating are the most common themes in Smile's 1-star reviews. If you need VIP tiers, you will pay more here than with any of the four apps above.
What merchants praise
- The easiest loyalty program to set up
- Rewards that work reliably
- Friendly support with named reps
What merchants complain about
- Price rises and key features gated behind the $199 plan
- Support that some merchants found unhelpful
- Gaps in earning rules, such as post-purchase upsells
| Plan | Price | Monthly orders | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 200 | Points, referrals, POS, 15+ ways to earn |
| Essential | $15/mo | 500 | Loyalty page, nudges, 1 integration (e.g. Klaviyo) |
| Standard | $79/mo | 1,000 | Bonus events, points on product pages, 2 integrations |
| Growth | $199/mo | 2,500, then $20 per 100 | VIP tiers, points expiry, Loyalty Hub, checkout redemption (Plus) |
Growave combines loyalty, product reviews and wishlists in one Built for Shopify app. Reviews include AI summaries and Google Shopping syndication, and wishlists send price-drop and back-in-stock alerts. For stores trying to replace two or three separate apps with one dashboard, that is the main reason to choose it, and it is a strong fit for beauty and apparel stores that rely on reviews and repeat browsing.
The free plan already includes loyalty, a wishlist and reviews for 200 orders a month, and Shopify POS and referrals start at $15. Costs climb quickly after that. Entry charges $20 per 100 orders past 500, and VIP tiers, points expiry and account extensions need the $199 Growth plan. At 3,000 orders a month, Growave is one of the most expensive apps in this list. Note that Growave's own pricing page shows different, annual-billing figures; we used the App Store monthly prices.
What merchants praise
- A one-stop shop for reviews, loyalty and wishlists
- Hands-on onboarding
- Named support agents who handle custom requests
What merchants complain about
- Price increases and features moved to higher tiers
- Coupon and reward logic errors in some reviews
- Display bugs in the reviews widget
| Plan | Price | Monthly orders | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 200 | Loyalty points, wishlist, reviews |
| Entry | $15/mo | 500, then $20 per 100 | Referrals, Shopify POS, 1 integration (e.g. Klaviyo) |
| Growth | $199/mo | 1,500, then $15 per 100 | VIP tiers, points expiry, account extensions |
| Plus | $499/mo | 3,000, then $10 per 100 | Checkout extensions, headless API and SDK |
Rivo unlocks VIP tiers, referrals, points expiry and bonus campaigns on its $49 Scale plan, the second cheapest VIP price among the established apps. Scale includes 400 orders, then adds $20 per 100 orders, but it is capped at $499 a month, which helps fast-growing brands forecast their costs. Shopify POS starts on the $15 Essential plan.
Its other strength is customization. The Plus plan includes the Rivo Developer Toolkit (JavaScript and REST APIs, metafields and webhooks) and checkout extensions, which makes Rivo a common choice for Shopify Plus and headless builds. It loses points for not having the Built for Shopify badge and for a recent run of reviews saying the advertised 24/7 human support was not always available, plus some reports of billing after uninstalling.
What merchants praise
- Simple setup, even for non-technical teams
- Quick, patient help on complex issues
- Good results for engagement and retention
What merchants complain about
- "24/7" support not always reachable, per 2026 reviews
- Bugs in discount and redemption logic
- Unexpected charges or billing after uninstall
| Plan | Price | Monthly orders | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 200 | Points program, branding, automated emails |
| Essential | $15/mo | 500 | Shopify POS, loyalty page, 2 integrations |
| Scale | $49/mo | 400, then $20 per 100 (max $499) | VIP tiers, referrals, points expiry, analytics |
| Plus | $499/mo | 2,500 | Developer Toolkit, checkout extensions, custom integrations |
Okendo started as a product reviews app and now sells loyalty, referrals, quizzes and surveys on the same customer profile. That is its biggest advantage for beauty and skincare brands: a customer who leaves a photo review can earn points automatically, and quiz answers can shape which rewards they see. Okendo says VIP tiers, Shopify POS, checkout and account extensions and its loyalty API are included on every loyalty plan.
It ranks eighth for two reasons. First, loyalty pricing is not on the App Store listing, which only shows the reviews plans. Okendo's own posts say loyalty starts at $99 a month and scales with order volume, so you will need a quote. Second, the 4.8 rating and 1,431 reviews mostly describe the reviews product, and the few loyalty-specific complaints we found are serious, including bugs with points, store credit and refunds, and loyalty onboarding that stalled.
What merchants praise
- Loyalty and referrals with strong account support
- Painless go-live after switching from another app
- Integrates well with an existing stack
What merchants complain about
- Bugs with points, store credit and refunds
- Loyalty, quizzes and surveys cost extra on top of reviews
- Slow support replies and billing issues for some
| Product | Price | Monthly orders | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Okendo Loyalty | From about $99/mo | Scales by volume | Vendor-stated, not on the App Store listing |
| Reviews Free | $0 | 50 | Reviews only |
| Reviews Essential | $19/mo | 200 | Reviews only |
| Reviews Growth | $119/mo | 1,500 | AI review summaries, Q&A, TikTok Shop |
Fast Loyalty puts the full loyalty toolkit on one free plan: points, VIP tiers, referrals, product referral bonuses, a Loyalty Hub for customers, and points redemption on Shopify POS and at checkout. Every other app in this list charges somewhere between $29 and $199 a month before you get VIP tiers and POS together, so for a new store testing what customers respond to, nothing here is cheaper.
We ranked it ninth because it is new. It launched on June 22, 2026, has fewer than 30 reviews (all 5-star) and does not have the Built for Shopify badge yet, so it scores low on trust and track record even though it has the top value score. Early reviewers praise quick setup and fast bug fixes, and it works with Klaviyo, Judge.me, Recharge, Seal and Fast Subscriptions in 20 languages.
What merchants praise
- A generous free feature set
- Easy to integrate and customize
- Bugs fixed quickly, in one case within 24 hours
What merchants mention
- A small install hiccup, resolved by support
- An early referral-link bug, since fixed
- Too few reviews yet to judge long-term reliability
| Plan | Price | Monthly orders | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Not limited on the listing | Points, VIP tiers, referrals, Loyalty Hub, POS and checkout redemption |
Disclosure: our team helped build Fast Loyalty. It was scored on exactly the same criteria and data as every other app in this list.
LoyaltyLion has been a loyalty-only company since 2014, and its paid plans come with a service layer most apps do not offer: a loyalty page design it values at $1,500, Klaviyo loyalty flows built for you, onboarding support and account managers. For a high-ticket brand with fewer, larger orders, that strategy help can matter more than the monthly price, and its free plan is the most generous here at 400 orders a month.
The price is the problem. The only paid plan on the App Store is Classic at $199 a month, which LoyaltyLion's site says includes 500 orders, and bigger stores need a custom quote. The App Store listing puts VIP tiers on Classic, while LoyaltyLion's own pricing page calls VIP an add-on on Classic and includes it from the Advanced plan, so confirm this before you sign up. It has no Built for Shopify badge, the lowest rating of the established apps here, and its 1-star reviews mostly describe yearly price increases.
What merchants praise
- Hands-on onboarding and account managers
- A strategic partner feel for growing brands
- Flexible rules and smooth integrations
What merchants complain about
- A steep jump from free to about $200 a month
- Custom pricing that rises year after year
- Hard to cancel, and dismissive support for some
| Plan | Price | Monthly orders | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 400 | Points for on-site actions, discount rewards, segments |
| Classic | $199/mo | 500 (vendor site) | Loyalty page design, Klaviyo flows built for you, POS (1 location) |
| Advanced and Plus | Custom quote | Custom | Multi-location POS, 130+ languages, AI campaigns (vendor site) |
Yotpo Loyalty (formerly Swell) makes sense for one kind of store above all: brands already paying for Yotpo Reviews or SMS that want one vendor and one customer view. It offers 20+ ready-made earning campaigns, strong segmentation and enterprise dashboards, and recent reviews from brands such as ModCloth and Haggar.com praise its live chat agents by name.
For everyone else, it is expensive. The free plan only applies to stores with fewer than 100 orders a month, Pro jumps straight to $199 with per-order fees past 500 orders, and, according to Yotpo's own site, VIP tiers are not in Pro at all but in the custom-priced Premium plan. There is no free trial listed and no Built for Shopify badge. Several 1-star reviews describe key features locked behind the most expensive plan.
What merchants praise
- Fast, efficient support from named agents
- Flexible earning rules and redemption options
- Works well with Yotpo Reviews and headless builds
What merchants complain about
- VIP tiers and other key features on the top plan
- Slow support for some, by email or chat only
- Legacy plans ended and integrations disconnected
| Plan | Price | Monthly orders | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Under 100 | Points, referrals, rewards sticky bar |
| Pro | $199/mo | 500, then $0.08 to $0.20/order | Checkout redemption, points expiry, Klaviyo, webhooks |
| Premium and Enterprise | Custom quote | Custom | VIP tiers (per Yotpo's site), advanced analytics |
Marsello is the only app in this list built for retailers whose stores do not run on Shopify POS. It connects natively to Lightspeed, Clover, Heartland Retail and Cin7 as well as Shopify POS, and it bundles loyalty with built-in email and SMS marketing, RFM segmentation, feedback surveys and Apple and Google Wallet passes. For a multi-location boutique on Lightspeed, it can replace three tools.
It ranks last because of merchant trust. It has the lowest rating here (4.2), the highest share of 1-star reviews (about 11%), and no free plan. Prices are per site connected, VIP tiers and API access need the $120 Accelerate plan, and most negative reviews describe price increases between 2023 and 2025, losing data access when downgrading, and slow support.
What merchants praise
- A robust platform that keeps improving
- Strong for in-store and multi-location retail
- Loyalty plus email in one tool
What merchants complain about
- Steep price increases and the free plan removed
- Losing customer data and points when downgrading
- Slow, generic support and unexpected charges
| Plan | Price | Order limit | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loyalty Launch | $60/mo per site | Not stated | Points, basic referrals, wallet passes, email and SMS automations |
| Loyalty Accelerate | $120/mo per site | Not stated | VIP tiers, custom earn options, points promotions, API access |
What each app costs at 300, 1,000 and 3,000 orders
Most loyalty apps price by monthly orders, so the plan that looks cheap today can cost several times more a year from now. This table shows the cheapest App Store plan that covers each order volume, billed monthly, plus what you pay at 1,000 orders if you also want VIP tiers.
| App | 300 orders | 1,000 orders | 3,000 orders | 1,000 orders with VIP tiers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fast Loyalty | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Essent* | $10 | $24 | $79 | $0 (1 tier) or $79 (unlimited) |
| Appstle Loyalty | $10 | $30 | $100 | $30 |
| Marsello | $60 | $60 | $60 | $120 |
| Smile | $15 | $79 | $299 | $199 |
| Okendo Loyalty | From about $99, scales by volume (vendor quote) | Included (vendor) | ||
| Joy | $29 | $104 | $229 | $129 |
| Growave | $15 | $115 | $424 | $199 |
| BON Loyalty | $15 | $129 | $129 | $129 |
| Rivo | $15 | $169 | $499 | $169 |
| Yotpo Loyalty | $199 | $299 | $499 | Quote (Premium) |
| LoyaltyLion | $0 | Quote | Quote | $199+ (see review) |
*Essent counts only loyalty-influenced orders, so these figures are its worst case, where every order counts. Marsello is priced per connected site. Costs exclude payment processing and any Shopify Plus requirements.
Which plan unlocks VIP tiers, POS and checkout points
The features that make a loyalty program feel premium usually sit on higher plans. Here is the cheapest plan that unlocks each one, so you can see the real entry price for the program you want to run.
| App | VIP tiers | Shopify POS | Points expiry | Redeem at checkout (Shopify Plus) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BON Loyalty | $129 | $29 | $15 | Free |
| Appstle Loyalty | $30 | $10 | $30 | $100 |
| Essent | Free (1 tier), $79 unlimited | $10 | $24 | $79 |
| Joy | $129 | $129 | $29 | $499 |
| Smile | $199 | Free | $199 | $199 |
| Growave | $199 | $15 | $199 | $499 |
| Rivo | $49 | $15 | $49 | $499 |
| Okendo Loyalty | All loyalty plans* | All loyalty plans* | Listed* | All loyalty plans* |
| Fast Loyalty | Free | Free | Not stated | Free |
| LoyaltyLion | $199 (listing), add-on (vendor) | $199 (1 location) | Not listed | Plus stores (vendor) |
| Yotpo Loyalty | Premium (quote) | Free (vendor) | $199 | $199 |
| Marsello | $120 | Core feature, plan not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
*Okendo's figures are vendor claims, since its loyalty plans are not on the App Store listing. Checkout redemption requires a Shopify Plus store on every app that offers it.
What real Shopify merchants say about loyalty apps
We read 17 Shopify Community threads about loyalty apps from 2021 to 2026, plus the 1 to 2 star reviews of the five apps merchants complain about most. One thing stood out first: most replies in those threads come from app vendors promoting their own product, and genuine merchant advice is rare. Here is what the merchants themselves keep saying, once the vendor noise is filtered out.
"Pricing punishes stores with lots of small orders"
This is the most consistent complaint. In a 2026 thread titled "No native loyalty program?!?", a merchant explains that order-volume pricing makes loyalty expensive for shops with many low-value transactions. App Store reviews for Smile and LoyaltyLion describe yearly price increases, and Marsello and Growave reviewers describe free plans being removed. Flat or loyalty-order pricing (BON Growth, Appstle, Essent) is the fix.
"I want one points balance in my shop and online"
The most-asked scenario in the Community is a store with a physical shop that wants one program across both channels. Merchants also ask for things most apps handle poorly: customers who have no email or account, redeeming points for a specific item at the till instead of a discount, and simple buy-10-get-1 stamp cards for coffee shops. If you sell in person, check POS support on the exact plan you will use, and test redemption at the till before launch.
"VIP tiers cost too much"
VIP tiers sit on $199 plans at Smile, Growave and LoyaltyLion, and Yotpo reviewers say tiers are missing from its $199 Pro plan altogether. Merchants on smaller budgets feel squeezed, which is why Appstle Loyalty ($30), Rivo ($49) and Essent (one free tier) score well on value in our ranking.
"Nobody is joining my program"
In one Community thread, a merchant on a free points app reported only a 12% sign-up rate and low redemption because customers found the rewards unclear. The advice from other merchants was practical: show the points a product earns on the product page and in the cart, make the first reward reachable after one order, and send balance reminders by email. The app matters less than how visible the program is.
"Support makes or breaks it"
Slow or unhelpful support is the top 1-star complaint across Smile, LoyaltyLion, Yotpo, Growave and Marsello. At the same time, recent 5-star reviews for nearly every app thank support agents by name. Support quality clearly varies by plan and by account, so test it during your free trial by asking one real setup question before you commit.
Moving your points from one app to another
Most loyalty apps can import point balances from a CSV export of your current app, so customers keep what they earned. The risk is in the details. Merchants moving from Lightspeed or Square POS often tracked customers by phone number rather than email, which some apps cannot match. One Appstle reviewer reported that imported balances used lifetime points instead of available points.
Before you switch, export your full customer list with current available balances, ask the new app to run a test import on a handful of customers, check those balances by hand, and email customers before launch so a changed widget does not look like lost points. BON, Essent, Growave, Appstle and Marsello all mention migration help in their listings or reviews.
