Ecommerce SEO Migrations: Replatform Without Losing Rankings

A replatform done wrong can erase years of SEO in a single weekend. Our SEO migration service protects your rankings, traffic, and revenue while you move: full URL mapping, redirects, content migration, and post-launch monitoring, executed by the same team that has migrated stores to Shopify from every major platform since 2014.

Why do migrations put your SEO at risk?

Your rankings are attached to specific URLs, content, and site structure that search engines have learned to trust over years. A replatform changes all three at once. Every URL that changes without a correct redirect leaks authority. Every product description, meta title, or category page that gets rebuilt carelessly resets signals Google spent years accumulating.

This is why so many merchants see organic traffic drop 30 to 50 percent after a migration and take a year to recover, if they recover at all. It is rarely the platform's fault. It is a migration executed without an SEO plan.

Done properly, the outcome flips. Because we handle the migration and the SEO in one team, moving to a faster, better-structured platform like Shopify becomes an opportunity: many stores we migrate end up ranking better than before, because the move fixes technical debt the old platform forced them to live with.

What does our SEO migration service include?

Pre-migration SEO audit

We benchmark every ranking, every URL, and every page earning traffic or links before anything moves, so we know exactly what must be protected and can prove afterwards that it was.

Full URL mapping & redirects

Every old URL is mapped to its new home and 301-redirected, including products, categories, blog posts, images, and the forgotten pages that quietly hold your backlinks. Nothing 404s, nothing leaks.

Content & metadata migration

Titles, meta descriptions, headings, product copy, alt text, and blog content carried over intact, then improved where the new platform allows it. Your ranking signals arrive with you.

Structured data rebuild

Schema markup rebuilt correctly on the new platform from day one, so rich results survive the switch instead of vanishing for months.

Launch-day technical checklist

Sitemaps, robots directives, canonical tags, indexation, site speed, and Search Console verification all confirmed at cutover, the moments where most migrations silently break.

Post-launch monitoring

We watch rankings, crawl errors, and traffic daily after launch and fix regressions immediately, then report your recovery curve against the pre-migration benchmark.

How does our SEO migration process work?

  1. Benchmark everything. Full crawl and ranking snapshot of the existing store: every URL, its traffic, its rankings, and its backlinks, preserved as the baseline we protect.
  2. Map & plan. One-to-one URL mapping, redirect rules, content migration plan, and a launch checklist agreed before development begins.
  3. Build with SEO in. The new store is built with metadata, schema, internal linking, and speed handled during development, not patched afterwards. Our migration team and SEO team are the same people.
  4. Controlled cutover. Redirects deploy at launch, sitemaps are submitted, indexation is verified, and the launch-day checklist is signed off item by item.
  5. Monitor & recover. Daily post-launch monitoring against the benchmark, immediate fixes for any regression, and a recovery report that shows rankings held or improved.

SEO migration FAQs

Will I lose SEO if I migrate to Shopify?

Not if the migration is planned for SEO from the start. Ranking losses come from broken URLs, missing redirects, and lost content, not from Shopify itself. With full URL mapping, 301 redirects, content migration, and post-launch monitoring, rankings typically hold through the move, and often improve on the faster platform.

How long does SEO take to stabilize after a migration?

Google usually processes a well-executed migration within 2 to 6 weeks, during which small ranking fluctuations are normal. We monitor daily through this window and fix anything that regresses. Poorly executed migrations, by contrast, can take a year to recover, which is exactly what this service exists to prevent.

Do you handle the whole migration or just the SEO part?

Either. Our migration team can run the full replatform with SEO built in, which is the safest option. If another team is building your new store, we can run the SEO migration alongside them: benchmarking, URL mapping, redirects, and post-launch monitoring.

What happens to my backlinks when I migrate?

Backlinks point at your old URLs, and their value flows to the new store through 301 redirects. Our mapping specifically prioritizes every URL with external links, however old or forgotten, so the authority your store has earned arrives intact on the new platform.

Shopify URLs are different from my current platform. Is that a problem?

Shopify uses fixed URL structures like /products/ and /collections/, so your URLs will change in a migration from most platforms. That is fine when every old URL is 301-redirected to its exact new counterpart, which is precisely what our one-to-one mapping does. Problems only arise when redirects are skipped or pointed at the homepage in bulk.

Can you fix a migration that already went wrong?

Yes. Rescue work is common: we re-crawl the old site structure, rebuild the redirect map, restore lost content and metadata, and resubmit for indexing. The sooner after launch we start, the more traffic we can claw back, so if your rankings just dropped, contact us now rather than waiting it out.
