Why TikTok Shop Orders Fail to Sync (and How to Fix Them)

TIKTOK SHOP INTEGRATION
By Fatima Zahra · 27th July 2026 · 11 min read

A TikTok Shop order usually fails to sync to Shopify for one of a few reasons: the product is not linked between TikTok Shop and Shopify, the ordered product was deleted from your Shopify store, required product fields are missing, the item is out of stock, or a temporary technical issue interrupted the sync. Open the Orders tab in TikTok Shop Connector by SPL, read the failure reason shown against the order, fix it, then click Sync to retry.

A failed order sync is stressful because there is a real customer waiting at the other end. The good news is that TikTok Shop Connector by SPL tells you why each order failed, so this is almost always a quick fix once you know what the message means.

This guide covers the core reasons from the SPL documentation, several more that sellers hit in practice, how to track failures, and how to retry a sync once you have fixed the cause.

Order sync switched off? Orders only flow across when order sync is enabled and configured. If nothing is importing at all, check your order settings first, covered in our guide to fulfilling TikTok Shop orders from Shopify.

Failed order sync reasons at a glance

Here is the quick version. The sections below explain each cause and its fix in more detail.

Reason Quick fix
Product not linked Connect the TikTok product to its Shopify match
Product deleted in Shopify Recreate or relink the product, then resync
Required fields missing Complete weight, dimensions and category fields
Out of stock Restock or correct the inventory count
Technical issue Wait briefly, then retry the sync
SKU mismatch Align SKUs between the two platforms
Unpaid or filtered order Check your order import settings

The core reasons an order fails to sync

These are the causes documented for TikTok Shop Connector by SPL, and between them they account for the large majority of failures.

1. The product is not linked between TikTok Shop and Shopify

This is the most common cause. If the TikTok product has never been connected to its matching Shopify product, the order has nowhere to land. Link the product, either by creating it in Shopify or connecting an existing one, and the order can sync. Our guide to connecting your Shopify products with TikTok Shop covers the linking step in full.

2. The ordered product was deleted from Shopify

If a product was removed from your Shopify store after it was listed on TikTok Shop, an order for it cannot sync because the Shopify product it points to no longer exists. Recreate the product or relink the order to a replacement, then resync.

3. Required fields are missing

If the product is missing fields that your Shopify store or the integration needs, the order sync can fail. This overlaps with the product data TikTok Shop itself requires, so it is worth making sure every product has its required product fields filled in before orders start coming through.

4. The product is out of stock

If the item shows as out of stock, the order can fail to process cleanly across the two systems. Keeping stock accurate with real-time inventory sync avoids the mismatch that causes this, since both platforms then agree on what is available.

5. A technical issue interrupted the sync

Sometimes your website or the connection hits a temporary technical problem. These usually clear on their own, so the fix is simply to wait a short while and retry the sync rather than change any settings.

More reasons sellers run into

Beyond the documented causes, these come up regularly for sellers running Shopify and TikTok Shop together. They are worth checking when the five above do not explain the failure.

SKU mismatch between platforms

If the SKU on TikTok Shop does not match the SKU in Shopify, the integration cannot confidently pair them, and the order can fail even when the product looks linked. Make sure SKUs are identical on both sides, particularly at the variant level.

Variant not connected

A product can be linked at the top level while a specific variant, such as one size or colour, is not. An order for that unconnected variant then fails. Reconnect the product and confirm every variant SKU is mapped.

Order filtered out by your settings

If your import settings are set to Only Orders with Linked Products or Paid Only, an unpaid order or one with an unlinked product will not import by design. Check your order settings before assuming it is a fault.

Customer details not passed through

Some orders arrive with masked or missing customer details, which can interrupt a clean sync into Shopify. This is usually a fulfillment setting on TikTok's side, covered in our hidden customer details guide.

Recently synced, still processing

A brand new order can take a moment to move through. If an order only just came in, give it a little time before treating it as failed, then refresh the sync status.

Currency or price data issue

Occasionally a mismatch in how price or currency data is stored can block an order from mapping cleanly. Confirm the product's pricing is set correctly on both platforms, then retry.

The pattern behind most failures: nearly every cause traces back to a product that is not fully or correctly linked between the two platforms. If you get product linking and SKUs right up front, order sync failures become rare.

How to track order sync failures

Failed order sync FAQs

Why is my TikTok Shop order not syncing to Shopify?

The most common reason is that the product is not linked between TikTok Shop and Shopify, so the order has nowhere to go. Other frequent causes are a product that was deleted from Shopify, missing required fields, an out of stock item, a SKU mismatch, or a temporary technical issue. Open the Orders tab in SPL, read the failure reason shown against the order, fix that specific cause, then click Sync to retry.

Where do I see why an order failed?

Go to the Orders tab in TikTok Shop Connector by SPL and click Import to check sync status. Any order that failed shows its failure reason right next to it, so you do not have to guess. That message points you at the exact fix to apply.

How do I retry a failed order sync?

Once you have resolved the issue behind the error message, click Sync in TikTok Shop Connector by SPL to trigger another sync of your orders. If the underlying cause is fixed, the order goes through on the retry.

Can a SKU mismatch cause an order to fail?

Yes. If the SKU on TikTok Shop does not match the SKU in Shopify, the integration cannot reliably pair them, and the order can fail even when the product appears linked. Make SKUs identical on both platforms, especially for each variant, and reconnect the product if needed.

My order is paid on TikTok but never appeared in Shopify. Why?

Check two things. First, whether the product in that order is linked, since unlinked products are a common reason orders do not import. Second, your order import settings: if they are set to Only Orders with Linked Products, an order containing an unlinked item is skipped by design rather than failing with an error.

Does deleting a Shopify product affect existing TikTok orders?

It can. If you delete a Shopify product that is still listed on TikTok Shop, an order for it has no Shopify product to sync to and will fail. Recreate or relink the product, then resync the order. As a rule, avoid deleting products that are still active on TikTok Shop.

How can I stop orders failing in the first place?

Link every product and variant before orders arrive, keep SKUs identical across platforms, fill in required product fields, and run real-time inventory sync so stock never disagrees. Most failures trace back to a product that is not fully linked, so getting that right removes the majority of them.
